A military robot is a machine designed to replace human soldiers. These machines don't need to be fed or sheltered from the elements. They don't have emotions, passions, or feelings. It is possible to reduce the amount of unethical behavior soldiers can display. They are also not subject to stress, fatigue or strain like human soldiers.
AVATAR III
AVATAR III is a highly customizable unmanned air vehicle (UAV) called the military robot. The robot includes a plug-and play payload dock that allows users the flexibility to make it work for them. The robot can target, detect and eliminate moving forces and is completely customizable. The AVATAR III also has the same tactical capabilities and features as its larger brother, the AVATAR IIITactical Robot. It features dual IR LED and LED lights as well as a sturdy, drop-resistant chassis.
The AVATAR III is capable of many things and can be used far beyond the battlefield. It will help first responders and law enforcement better respond to hazardous situations. It is rugged and flexible. It supports two-way audio and can be used on multiple wireless channels simultaneously. The robot is also capable of navigating a variety of different terrain types and environments, making it an excellent choice for combat or law enforcement missions.
REDOWL
iRobot's military robot, REDOWL has been developed. It is based on neural-network circuitry which mimics the behavior of nerve cells. The REDOWL is different from other robots in that it doesn't have a programming language. They learn by trial, error, and not using a specific programming language. It can identify gunshots and determine the sound direction. The difference between the guesses and the actual location of sound is fed to the animal, who then runs another trial. This is how it learns and eventually develops a neural connection to the sound source.
The REDOWL army robot features an array acoustic/optics systems that determine the source gunfire. It's also attached to a Packbot, which is a miniature tank robot. The robot is controlled using a modified Xbox controller. It is capable in entering dangerous buildings, and can spot gunfire with in milliseconds. Two wide-angle cameras are included, along with a thermal imaging cam that allows for precise identification of targets. It is ideal for urban surveillance, hostage/barcade situations and perimeter protection missions.
MUTT
The MUTT military robotic can be used for many purposes, including assisting ground troops in combat and remote operations. The advanced technology of the MUTT makes it an ideal tool to ease the burden of ground troops. The remote-controlled, teleoperated robot is able to provide greater stand-off from enemy threats while also enhancing combat power projection. Its flexible design also allows it to evolve to accommodate new payloads, controllers, and increased levels of autonomy.
The GDLS created the MUTT military robotics. It is based upon the Small Multipurpose Equipment Transport(SMMET) program. This program is intended to expand the boundaries of autonomous operations and change the paradigm in manned/unmanned warfare. It will be deployed to IBCTs by 2022. It can be used for direct or indirect fire, autonomous supply, EW mission, and autonomous resupply. It also allows for counter-drone operation.
BigDog
Boston Dynamics is developing a military robot called the BigDog. The robot can travel long distances and carry supplies and soldiers. BigDog's ability to run across a wide range of terrains means it can traverse enemy minefields or positions. It's a great way of strengthening a unit without placing them at risk. Its dependable and sturdy design allows it to carry a wide variety of items.
Boston Dynamics, the company that created the BigDog, worked with DARPA in order to improve the military robotics. The company has designed the BigDog military robot to be able to cross multiple types of terrains and bring supplies to soldiers in the field. AlphaDog is another DARPA-sponsored military robotic designed to help spearhead combat formations.
