One nation may use economic warfare to try and weaken or isolate another country. Embargoes or targeted sanctions are the methods used in economic war. This article will explain how these measures impact a nation's military strength. We will also look at the potential consequences of these tactics for the nation.
Effect of economic warfare o a nation's army power
A nation can use economic warfare to weaken the military power of another. It examines a nation's ability or inability to produce and obtain goods. The United States tried to overthrow Fidel Cruz by increasing trade with Cuba, but this was stopped by increased trade between the two countries. Economic warfare, while a cheaper complement to military engagement is available, can have repercussions for the initiating country.
Embargoes
An embargo is often used as a tool in foreign policy to target a country. They can be used to reduce economic activity, stifle imports and have unintended consequences for civilian populations, especially the disadvantaged. Additionally, they can lead to human rights violations. This paper examines the negative effects of embargoes, and calls for research to find the best ways to limit their impact on civilian populations.
Blockades
A form of economic warfare, blockades can cripple an entire economy. They can be especially effective when the economy of the target is dependent heavily on imports. The Union Navy used blockades during the Civil War to decimate the Confederacy's economy. It disrupted the Confederacy’s transportation network, food supply and monetary system.

Lease-Lend programme
Lend-Lend provided major economic support for Europe's war effort. It helped to boost the military efforts of both the British & Soviet Union and provided them with the necessary equipment and supplies to fight the war. While Soviet history tends to minimize America's role in the war, some historians believe that the Soviet Union would not have won the war without American assistance. The United States ended its policy of neutrality in March 1941 and this program marked the end.
