Russia is currently fighting the Ukrainians with various types of tanks. Here, you will learn about the T-72, T-90, T-80, and T-62. There are two main differences between these tanks: their firepower and speed. These tanks are better suited to urban combat and are not designed for combat operations.
T-72
The T-72 tank became a common sight during the conflict in Ukraine. Although Russia denies sending these tanks into Ukraine the separatist forces have taken many of them. Recent analysis by the International Institute for Strategic Studies has revealed video footage showing a convoy full of Russian military vehicles.
T-90
The Russian Army uses a variety of combat vehicles to fight for control in the conflict between Ukraine, Russia. These vehicles can be modern, sophisticated or early Cold War-era vehicles. One example is the T-90M tank. It is currently held in Ukraine but could offer interesting insights into Russian military technologies.
T-80
The T-80 tank used by Russia in the Ukraine conflict was allegedly destroyed by Ukrainian Armed Forces. Oryx blog says that the tank fell near Sumy Oblast (northern Ukraine) on March 17. But it isn't clear how much tank actually was destroyed. It does not matter what the fate of this tank is, it's important to keep in mind that it was used as an experiment.
T-62
A number of photos have recently captured the T-62 Russian tank used in Ukraine. An earlier photo of a train loaded with tanks arriving at a Ukrainian railway station was taken in the spring. The vehicles were marked with similar codes as the tanks that recently appeared in Kherson Oblast with improvised armor.
T-62M
The Russian military is planning to reactivate and upgrade over 800 Soviet-era T-62 tanks within the next three years. This tank is cost-effective and has been reactivated and upgraded. It's also easy to maintain and field large quantities.
T-72B3
Russia used the T-72B3 tank in the conflict with Ukraine. The new design of the tank and its upgraded engine make it capable of traveling up to 40 mph over paved roads. It can also travel 300 miles on one tank charge. It looks very similar to the Ukrainian army's tanks.
T-72M
Russia's T-72M T-72M tanks took a significant amount of damage in the recent Ukraine conflict. The destruction of 580 tanks was estimated, with around 15,000 Russian military personnel being killed. It is hard to replace tank crews. The process takes several months, and in some cases, even a full year.
